Silagra (Sildenafil) an oral therapy for erectile dysfunction, is a selective inhibitor of cyclic GMP) – specific type 5 ( PDE5). The physiologic mechanism of erection of the penis involves release of nitric oxide in the penis during sexual stimulation. Nitric oxide then activates the enzyme guanytate cyclase, which results in increased levels of cyclic GMP. This process produces smooth muscle relaxation in the penis and allows inflow of blood, thus causing an erection.
